2020 MS Closed Championship

Tournament Cancellations due to Covid-19

Due to CoVid-19, the Girls State Championship and Senior State Championship tournaments have been cancelled for this year.  The national Polgar, Haring, and Senior tournament representatives will be selected by alternative means.

Due to schedule changes at the University of Mississippi in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the 2020 MS Girls Championship and the 2020 MS Senior Championship are on hold indefinitely. Stay tuned for announcements for whether an alternate date and/or venue might be determined.

Additionally, this year's National High School K-12 Championship is cancelled.

National Scholastic Regulations: Notation Required at Tournaments

Notation will be *required at all US Chess Federation national scholastic events! Coaches and parents, please read the following attached article to learn more about the changes and how they may affect your players.

Please note that the national level regulations may differ from Mississippi Chess Association requirements for scholastic tournaments.

*For all middle and high school sections, and most elementary sections. Please see article for details. Players are strongly encouraged to notate regardless of skill level, as notation is a key component of the learning process!

COACHES: Scholastic Tournament Notation Sheets

This is an official notice to coaches that notation sheets will be REQUIRED at all state scholastic events for all sections except K-1. Please find example notation sheets here: USCF_Notation_Sheets and have your students practice playing games with them. It will make the whole tournament experience easier and less stressful if they know how to use notation ahead of time!

Congratulations to the 2019 Mississippi State Chess Co-champions, Benson Schexnaydre, Savetha Ch, and Stephen L Curry! Each finished the tournament with 4.0 points, having drawn each other in matches at some point in the tournament. A deservedly split title!
